Full course description
Young children with Selective Mutism (SM) are often too young to benefit from traditional CBT approaches due to their developmental level and limited meta-cognitive abilities. In this video, Dr. Steven Kurtz makes the case for a lateral extension of PCIT to children with SM. Dr. Kurtz uses a dynamic speaking style to describe his years of experience working with children with SM. Through the use of a compelling literature review and video examples, you will learn how Dr. Kurtz and his clinical team have been able to assess SM using the DPICS. You will also learn how he utilizes an adapted form of PCIT called PCIT-SM. Finally, this video presents examples of how to effectively use therapist coaching in the clinic and generalized settings (home and school) to treat SM in young children using the PCIT-SM protocol.
THE COURSE WILL TAKE 1 HOUR TO COMPLETE AND YOU WILL EARN 1 CE FOR PSYCHOLOGISTS.
