PCIT: Ethical Considerations for the PCIT Therapist

Parent Child Interaction Therapy is a highly effective technique for working with young children with primary or secondary disruptive behavior disorders.  Unique ethical dilemmas sometimes arise because it is an intervention involving live coaching of caregivers during their interactions with their children.  This three hour APA-approved ethics course features PCIT International Master Trainers Dr. John Paul Abner and Dr. Robin H. Gurwitch discussing possible solutions to over 20 different ethical dilemmas.   This program begins with a basic introduction to the general principles of ethics and how they relate to the Parent Child Interaction Therapy.  After this introduction, Drs. Abner and Gurwitch discuss dilemmas relating to such issues as dual role conflicts, impaired caregivers, custody issues, reporting parents to child protective services, and other ethical issues.
